Starting Strength Filming Angles 1:1 Video Call with Byron Johnston, SSC

Upload your videos onto Youtube in a way that we can play and pause the video during the call, so ideally not on their stories (portrait) mode.
You can also use vimeo platform or send me the files if the first 2 are not an option.

Points for filming the lifts before you upload them.

  • I suggest propping up the camera on a bench, foam roller or using a tripod stand. Propping up: I use a case for my phone that is similar to the wallet style cases. This makes it very easy to position the phone on its side and film lifts.
You can also ask someone to hold and film for you.

  • In good lighting film directly onto your phone’s photos app - then trim down the video to just show when you take hold of the bar and do your set up to the point where you re-rack it, this makes for a really fast upload and saves space on your phone.

  • In the squat rack, remove any plates/towels etc hanging from it that might block the view of you.

  • When filming, I don’t mind if you use landscape or portrait as long as I can see ALL of you in the video.

  • Working weight sets are best to upload.

  • If you are failing reps and this is part of your enquiry with me – I’d like to see a failed set if you have one filmed, so I can check for form breakdown under heavy loads.
