Filming Angles

There are just a few points for filming the lifts before you upload them to the app.

  • I suggest propping up the camera on a bench, foam roller or using a stand. I use a case for my phone that is similar to the wallet style cases. This makes it very easy to position the phone on its side and film lifts.
You can also ask someone to hold and film for you.

  • Film directly onto your phone’s photos app - then trim down the video to just show when you take hold of the bar and do your set up to the point where you re-rack it, this makes for a really fast upload to the True Coach app and saves space on your phone too.

  • If in the squat rack, remove any plates/towels etc hanging from it that might block the view.

  • When filming, I don’t mind if you use landscape or portrait as long as I can see all of you in the video.

  • Usually the last set at working weight is the one I want you to upload. I do suggest you film the earlier working weight sets so you can check them and autocorrect your form as you go.

  • If you RPE 10 – I’d like to see that set wherever it occurs in your sets overall, so I can check for form breakdown.

Deadlift - film from front oblique angle.

Squat, film from rear oblique angle.

The press, film from same angle as deadlift - front oblique. Note - remove plates blocking view where possible!

The bench press, not directly side on, but slightly at 45º
